Foundations

By: Wes Trevor, Youth and Family Pastor

We are launching a new program out of the Student Ministries Department starting this spring.  Foundations is a semester long intentional discipleship cohort for Middle School students in the 7th and 8th grade. It is our hope that we can help foster an environment where our middle school students can build a framework and foundation for navigating faith throughout adolescence and beyond.

You may have read somewhere or heard a sermon at some point about how students are leaving church and faith after high school.  Those statistics have deeply impacted the way we think about programming for our students and it is our hope that students will graduate from our ministry with the tools to navigate the transition into adulthood when it comes to their faith formation.  Foundations is a direct attempt to address those tools and help our student be well grounded.

We will meet weekly on Wednesday nights throughout the semester, but it will also include a capstone trip this summer that will allow our students to experience a new part of the country while also merging adventure and hands on spiritual activities and discussions. It is our hope out of these experiences that faith will become tangible and a path will present itself for students to follow and learn how to engage in a life long relationship with the Kingdom of God.

There will be a small Foundations leadership team.  I will be working behind the scenes and keeping our crew on schedule, while also being the main force behind our cultural experiences and trips. Our additional leaders will be providing teaching, guidance and engage at the relational level with our students throughout this process. We covet your prayers and encouragement as we embark on this journey.

We also ask that you would be praying for the students who are considering this program.  Pray for those who need to be a part of what we are doing. Also, pray for those students who join our Foundations Cohort, that this semester will be rich with spiritual formation and life long community bonds that help promote strong connections to the Kingdom.

We kick off on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 and we look forward to sharing our story throughout the year!
