Seven—A Lenten Series :: 4/6/25 :: Billy Waters

Welcome to Wellspring Church!

What does it mean to be truly satisfied? This week, we continue our Lent series on The Seven Deadly Sins by exploring gluttony—not just as overeating, but as a deeper heart issue of overindulgence and misplaced hunger.

Looking at Proverbs 23, Philippians 3, and Ephesians 5, we see that gluttony is not about body size or food alone—it’s about turning to created things for comfort, control, and pleasure instead of turning to God. It’s a refusal to embrace the God-given limits of life, and it leaves us restless, numbed, and distracted from what really matters.

📖 Key Themes in This Message:

🔹 Gluttony is an excess that damages our bodies, relationships, and spiritual life

🔹 The lies of gluttony: “My comfort is ultimate,” “One more won’t hurt,” and “Jesus isn’t enough”

🔹 Food and pleasure are gifts—but we’re called to receive them with gratitude, moderation, and mission

🔹 The remedy to gluttony is temperance, gratitude, honest community, and a deeper hunger for Jesus

Gluttony says, “Fill yourself now.” Jesus says, “Come to me and I will satisfy your soul.” In a world that pushes more, louder, faster—we are invited into a deeper feast: the presence and promises of Christ, both now and forever.
