Window 11 :: The Baptism of Christ

This window highlights the baptism of Jesus and the beginning of his ministry.

Panel 2, 3 - Candle of Jesus as the Light of the World

This panel shows a lit candle on a candlestick. It represents Christ’s role as the Light of the World, put on display with the beginning of his ministry. Jesus’s ministry has begun, bringing light to a dark world.

Panel 4, 5 - Wine Bottles for the Wedding in Cana

These panels show wine bottles, representing Jesus’ first miracle at the wedding in Cana, which is recounted in John 2:1-11. This was the first miracle in the ministry of Christ. It is a declaration of joy and alludes to the culmination of God’s salvation of humanity in a heavenly wedding between Christ and his bride, the church.

Panel 7 - The Chi Rho Christogram

This panel displays the Chi Rho (/kī - rō/), which is an abbreviation of the first letters of the Greek word “Christ.” Here, the Chi Rho Christogram represents the declaration of Christ as Savior at his baptism.

Panel 9, 10 - The Descending Dove of Jesus’ Baptism

Building on the image in the previous panel, this panel shows a dove, which is the Holy Spirit. At Christ’s baptism, God made public his declaration: “This is my son, with whom I am well pleased.”
