Window 15 :: The Resurrection

Christ is Risen! This is the Window of resurrection. Jesus is victorious over death and is Risen again. This window declares the true hope of God’s people. We will rise with Christ and be together with Him forever.

Panel 1 - The Lamp

The lamp is an often used symbol in christian art and it has many meanings. While it can represent the word of God, here it is a guiding light out of the darkness of death. Jesus is risen and has left the tomb via the light of this lamp.

Panel 3 - Butterfly

This panel displays a butterfly. Here the butterfly is a symbol of the bodily resurrection. Like a caterpillar withdrawing into a cocoon to be reborn as a butterfly, so Christ withdrew into the tomb and rose as the resurrected man.

Panel 5, 6 - Lilies

These panels show white lilies. Lilies are traditional symbols of the resurrection and have been used in christian art for centuries. Lilies have to be planted as a bulb underneath the earth before they can rise as beautiful flowers. This directly echoes Christ’s own descent into the earth and his rise!

Panel 7 - Phoenix

This panel shows a bird emerging from flames known as a phoenix. The phoenix is a legendary ancient bird. When the bird dies it burns up and rises again. It is another symbol of Christ’s resurrection. In death a new life is born.

Panel 9 - The Victorious Lamb

The crown of this window displays the Victorious Lamb!. Christ is the lamb and he holds the green flag of victory. This symbol has been used for centuries and is a reference to John the Baptist’s words in John 1:20 “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” Green represents new life and immortality. Death is defeated and we will rise with Christ.
